I’m a little confused because you usually see wire localization with breast procedures. So I’m curious whether this involves an axillary lymph node (which could arguably use the usual breast codes) or whether this is a non-breast service, in which case an unlisted code seems a likely possibility.
Could you please confirm this?
Discuss with your physician; you would come to the answer for this real challenge.

Contraceptive device in the left arm with prior attempts at resection, which were difficult due to the embedded nature of the foreign body within the fascia musculature. Request is made for ultrasound-guided wire localization of the proximal and distal TIPS of the foreign body in planning for surgical resection
Wire localization of the proximal and distal tips of the foreign body contraceptive device.

It would be an unlisted code (17999, unlisted procedure, skin, mucous membrane and subQ tissue) with 76942 (Ultrasonic guidance for needle placement (eg, biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device), imaging supervision and interpretation) with mod 26 as appropriate.
