Lidocaine vs 27093/95

SuperCoder Posted Tue 22nd of September, 2009 09:18:03 AM

If the radiologist performs hip arthrography and documents using 1 percent lidocaine, should I report 27093 or 27095?

Code 27093 (Injection procedure for hip arthrography; without anesthesia) is the appropriate code. The "with anesthesia" in 27095 (... with anesthesia) refers to general anesthesia. And lidocaine is a local anesthetic.
