WHAT IS THE CPT CODE 80176 USED FOR.

SuperCoder Answered Tue 14th of October, 2014 14:44:54 PM

Thanks for your question. Procedure code 80176 is the code for quantitative assay for Lidocaine. CPT provides codes 80150–80202 to describe quantitative assays for specific therapeutic drugs. The drug names are alphabetical from CPT code 80150 (Amikacin) to CPT code 80202 (Vancomycin). Lidocaine is used in procedures as an anesthesia agent via gel or injection form. A provider would perform a laboratory test to monitor the level of Lidocaine (80176) in a patient so that the patient does not reach a toxic level.

this code is for the lab then, to my understanding. can the out-patient facility bill for this code?

This code is for laboratory billing. You should not bill for this code unless your site provides laboratory services.
