Licence Associate Counselors

Marilyn Posted Tue 30th of April, 2019 22:19:13 PM
Are L.A.C. be able to see patients under supervision and have the supervisor file the claim? I was told by Horizon BCBS that they cannot see nor be supervised?

Our team is working on it and will get back to you.

Thanks for your patience.

For most states the Licensed Associate Counselor should only practice under direct supervision.  The medical professional providing the direct supervision may vary depending on the state’s guidelines. It depends on the policies in your specific area. The issue is what the practice’s specific contract with the insurer/payer says. Some clinics or hospitals might have special contracts that allow associates/residents to bill.

If horizon BCBS is saying that you can’t bill for a LAC whether supervised or not, it is probably written in their contract and you should pull your contract and verify that information.

Hope that helps
