Good Afternoon, can you please help me in billing this procedure, the only code I'm coming across is the one for Incision and Drainage - 23930 but I can't use that code because he didn't do the incision. Can you please tell me what other code I can use. Below is the procedure note. The patient was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. The left elbow hematoma was visualized under ultrasound guidance. A 27 G needle was used for local anesthesia. 2 ml of 1% Lidocaine was used to infiltrate the subcutaneous region around the elbow. A 22 G needle 1.5 inch needle was then advanced under ultrasound guidance. 15 ml of sanguinous fluid was then extracted. Needle visualization was accomplished and was positioned appropriately. The patient tolerated the procedure well without complaints. A bandaid was applied over the site of entry. The patient was instructed to ice the area and place an ACE bandage over the left elbow. He was instructed to follow up in 1 week

Hi,

As per the documentaion the procedure is similar to aspiration, as provider is inserting needle and extracting the fluid. Please see the code 20606( Arthrocentesis, aspiration and/or injection, intermediate joint or bursa (eg, temporomandibular, acromioclavicular, wrist, elbow or ankle, olecranon bursa); with ultrasound guidance, with permanent recording and reporting).

Hope that helps!
