I am billing for a left achilles tendon irrigation and debridement for infection versus cellulitis. The tendon was separated from the overlying subq tissues. Dissected both medial and lateral around achilles tendon, going between tendon and retrocalcaneal. Culture taken on medial side as well as lateral side. No obvious drainage coming from tendon. Spit the tendon longitudinally thruogh tendon to check for diseased tissue within tendon.Took culture in retrocalcaneal bursa. Cultures were done, tendon was irrigated, split tendon was closed.
I saw 27606. I didn't know if anyone else had to bill for an irrigation/debridement of achilles tendon and what code did you use? Thanks for the help.

Debridement of Achilles tendon can be code 27899, but report 11043 if the physician debrides by removing of any devitalized tissue and foreign matter, assuming the descriptor matches the surgeon’s documented debridement depth and the structures involved.Apart from that if the physician performs a tenolysis then report 27680 (according to the AMA’s October 2007 CPT Assistant)
