I need some help in finding a CPT code to support laser treatment for nail fungus. Our podiatrists would like to start doing these an I'm unable to find anything that fits. The only thing I'm able to come up with is the unlisted dermatological service code 96999. They would also like to start using the laser treatment for hypertrophic scars. Would I use the same unlisted code for that?

YAG laser for onychomycosis treatment:
Agree with 96999, but some use 17999(Unlisted procedure, skin, mucous membrane and subcutaneous tissue) too.
Toenail onychomycosis is a common ailment in the general population, but effective treatments are lacking. The use of laser therapy has been investigated to destroy the dermatophytes in the nail bed. Most Insurances do NOT cover laser treatment for onychomycosis. It is investigational/experimental and unproven.
