Laparoscopic Evacuation of Hematoma and Ligation of Pelvic Arterial Bleed

Cindy Posted Wed 26th of August, 2015 07:07:16 AM

My surgeon was called in by OBGYN for a patient who developed post op complications from a Vag Hyster earlier in the day. He performed both the evacuation of the hematoma and Ligation of Pelvic Arterial Bleed. He used Laparoscopic and he also placed trocars suprabubically. I have coded the evacuation of hematoma 49329, but have not been able to find a code for the ligation of the pelvic artery. Would I use an unlisted GYN code 58999 and compare it to 35840.
Thank you

Your coding seems appropriate. As CPT code 35840 is for open exploration, so you cannot use it, since procedure done laparoscopically. Also, do not forget to provide proper documentation which supports the unlisted procedures.
