Laminectomy with removal of facet cyst

Nicole Posted Tue 04th of December, 2018 16:26:04 PM
My doctor performed a 2 level laminectomy, facetectomy and foraminotomy (63047/6308) and also removed a large facet cyst at one of the levels (63267) Would it be appropriate to report all 3 codes since the the 63267 does not include the decompression.

Hi Nicole,

If the intent of the laminectomy procedure was to remove the cyst located at the lamina, only the cyst removal code (63267) should be billed. You should not bill seperately for laminectomy. If the location of the cyst is at the facets, you should only billed CPT code 63047. Factectomy procedure would also lead to removal of lesion located at facet. You need not to bill seperate code for lesion removal since lesion removal performed at these locations would get included in the performed laminectomy and facetectomy procedures.

Hope, provided information would be helpful.
