THE PHYSICIAN DID A LAMINECTOMIES ON L1 THROUGH L5 WITH NERVE ROOT DECOMPRESSIONS. WOULD THIS BE 63017? I'M CONFUSED BECAUSE 63017 DOES NOT MENTION DECOMPRESSION OF NERVE ROOTS JUST THE SPINAL CORD AND CAUDA EQUINA. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU, TARA

Hi,

CPT code 63017  includes the excision of the affected laminae and the attached ligamentum flavum. Also, decompression is continued by removal of bony overgrowths or tissue until the dural sac and nerve roots are free from compression. 

Hence, 63017 is the correct code.
