Labral tears that are not SLAP

Jill Posted Tue 15th of December, 2009 15:53:41 PM

In the orthopedic specialty guides, there is a very informative article on coding SLAP tears, with this sentence included:

"Unless verified that this is a SLAP, 29807 is not reported for labrum tears that are not specifically SLAP tears.” (My wish: Insert if it is not verified as a SLAP, use ______.)

My question is, if it is not a Superior Labral Anterior Posterior but an Inferior Anterior, what do you use for 1) DX code and 2) CPT code for the repair? ICD-9 is not helpful in this scenerio.

The codes should be 29806 (arthroscopic equivalent of labral repair code 23450)and 840.8.
