(knee coding) removal partial knee then do a total knee

Diane Posted Mon 07th of December, 2015 13:50:49 PM

My physician wants to do a removal of a medial compartment (conformis) partial knee replacement implant, then do a total knee replacement. All of the removal codes state removal or revision of total knee, she does not have a total knee she has a partial knee replacement. Would I use the code 27488 removal of prosthesis then code for the total knee arthroplasty 27447. Or for the removal and the total knee would I use a revision code 27486?

Depending upon documentation and the situation, this could be coded 27447 and 27488 -51
