Kidney stone and hydronephrosis diagnosis code

Sarah Posted Tue 19th of April, 2016 15:08:35 PM
If a patient has a renal stone and also has hydronephrosis, would you code N20.0 for the renal stone and N13.2 for the hydronephrosis with renal calculous OR would you just use N13.2 to cover both DX?

Hi, for this scenario, you should report the following two codes: 1. N20.0 (Calculus of kidney) 2. N13.30 (Unspecified hydronephrosis) You cannot report N13.2 (Hydronephrosis with renal and ureteral calculous obstruction) since its descriptor says "...ureteral calculous obstruction", which is not the case here. Thanks.
