IV Stem Cell

Nicole Posted Tue 22nd of January, 2019 12:43:20 PM
If a patient had an injection of stem cells through the IV (not intrathecal) would the CPT code still be the 0232T? Is there anything else that can be billed?

Basically the procedure done was as follows: 10cc saline flush was administered in patients IV line. Then, 2ML corecyte cord tissue allograft administered through the IV, followed by another 10cc saline flush. **Wondering now if the correct CPT would possibly be 96365?

Hi,

Thanks for your patience.

It is not appropriate to code 96365 as the description suggest that the provider administers initial intravenous infusion of medication for period up to one hour. Code 0232T is for platelet rich plasma administration, so also not appropriate.

Please look at code 96374 Therapeutic, prophylactic, or diagnostic injection (specify substance or drug); intravenous push, single or initial substance/drug which seems to be more appropriate as per the description above.

Thanks.
