IV insertion billing

Dana Posted Thu 24th of October, 2019 13:14:07 PM
We have a client that performs IVs for antibiotics, benedryl, etc. prior to performing a procedure(such as SCS Trials, discographies) and is asking if the insertion of the IV can be billed in addition to the procedure. When I looked at the CCI edits for the 62290 and 36410(as an example), the 36410 is a Column 2 code which would allow a modifier. Our question is, can you bill it in addition to the code and if so, which modifier would be appropriate?

Hi Dana,

Thank you for your question.

It is ok to bill both the codes 62290 and 36410 together, however,  use modifier 59 with the second code.
