Is the Contrast Material used for needle localization billable?

Maria Posted Thu 30th of May, 2019 16:00:27 PM
When a provider uses contrast to confirm needle localization for: CT Guided Injections, CT Facet Injection, Fluro Facet Injection, etc. Is the contrast material billable?

Hello Maria,

Thank you for your question.

As per CPT® Guidelines, Image guidance [fluoroscopy or CT] and any injection of contrast are inclusive components of 64490-64495. Therefore, the contrast material for CT Facet Injection, Fluro Facet Injection should not be billed separately.
