DR. EXPLANTS A 3 PIECE IPP WITH REIMPLANT OF MALEABLE PROSTHESIS...WOULD THIS CPT CODE BE 54410? THANKS...

CPT code 54410 is for removal and replacement of all component(s) of a multi-component, inflatable penile prosthesis at the same operative session. In this procedure, the provider removes and replaces, at the same operative session, the previously placed inflatable synthetic material for a multi component, inflatable penile prosthesis from the penis of a patient. The CPT 54410 is correct for re-implant prosthesis when performed in same session.

In addition to it, in a scenario where a patient presents with an infected noninflatable penile prosthesis, the provider removes the old prosthesis and replaces the infected prosthesis with a multicomponent inflatable one. When the provider removes one type of prosthesis and replaces it with a prosthesis of a different type, base your coding on the type of prosthesis the provider inserts, not on the type he removes. What confuses coders is that the descriptions of the procedures imply that the provider is removing a particular type of prosthesis and replacing it with the same type. Hence, re-check the op-report and bill this code.
