Intraoperative ultrasound

Deborah h Posted Tue 26th of May, 2015 17:20:32 PM

If a physician uses an intra-operative ultrasound during a lumbar wound revision for a previous placed baclofen pump system that was leaking CSF fluid; how would this procedure be coded; would you code for the intra-operative ultrasound if the radiologist read it but the surgeon utilized the ultrasound for the procedure. How would you code this scenario; please list both codes;ultrasound w/modifier and the code for the lumbar wound revision for CSF leakage?

The procedure codes are CPT 63707 and 76998 (with 26 modifier). For the confusion whether ultrasound will be billed by radiologist or surgeon, I think the surgeon should not be billing it rather the radiologist with 26 modifier.
