Interspinous Fixation Fusion Device

Debra Posted Fri 09th of January, 2015 12:17:11 PM

I am hoping I can get some help with someone who is familiar with spine surgeries.

(I am posting this question in ortho and neurosurgery).

My physician that I code for will be using Aileron (Life Spine) interspinous fixation fusion device.

I am not sure of the correct cpt code for billing Aileron.

Is there anyone who is familiar with coding this piece of hardware and can give any advise.

There is no listed code for Interspinous Fixation Fusion Device. You should use unlisted code 22899, Unlisted procedure, spine.

Thanks !!

After doing some further research I came across some information that is suggesting to bill with CPT code 0171T.

Can you tell me if this would be correct instead of the unlisted 22899 code?

Code 0171T represents 'Insertion of posterior spinous process distraction device (including necessary removal of bone or ligament for insertion and imaging guidance), lumbar; single level'.

This code if for spinous process distraction device and not for fusion device. Hence, you should use code 22899 only.

Thanks !!
