Patient was taken to surgery for ductal tissue excision with a diagnosis of bloody nipple discharge. Methylene blue dye was injected into the breast for identification of the nipple ducts and the ductal tissue was excised. I looked at code 19110, but the report only stated excision of the breast ductal tissue. I am leaning towards code 19120. Please advice on a code for the ductal tissue excison and the injection.

Code 19120 best matches the above description of procedure. Code 19120 represents 'Excision of cyst, fibroadenoma, or other benign or malignant tumor, aberrant breast tissue, duct lesion, nipple or areolar lesion (except 19300), open, male or female, 1 or more lesions'.

Is there a separate charge for the use of the methylene blue injection for the identification of the breast tissue?

No, there is no separate code for the methylene blue injection for the identification of the breast tissue.
