ingrown hair removal

Tauna Posted Tue 21st of May, 2013 19:44:04 PM

Progress note says: "Pt comes to the office stating that she has an ingrown hair on her breast. She states that it has been there for about 5 months and is getting sore." "Site was prepped with alcohol and 1% lido 0.5 cc. #12 blade was used to make 1 mm incision. 13 mm hair was removed."

Would the ingrown hair be considered a foreign body and therefore use of CPT '10120' appropriate? or should I use CPT '17999'? I'm unsure on this one. Thanks.

The ingrowing hair is an autologous tissues with its root and bulb intact and with it's nerve and blood supply intact. it can not be categorized into a" foreign body".You can go with the unlisted 17999 only.
