Can you bill for two hernia repairs, same surgery?

SuperCoder Answered Tue 21st of June, 2011 17:26:30 PM

Do you mean same surgery as "in same session"?

Ronda Posted Tue 21st of June, 2011 17:51:48 PM

Yes. I am new to hernia coding and want to make sure I am not missing something.

Greetings Jeffrey,
There are several answers to your query; mostly starting with .. Depends on -
Coding more than one hernia repairs in the same session depends on:
. What was done?
. What are the diagnoses for each?
. Your surgeon's documentation of the procedures
. Lap or open procedures.
We have gotten paid and sometimes denied. I am currently fighting w/CMS over an open recurrent incarcerated inguinal hernia repair that was done with an open non-incarcerated new hernia repair.
Can you post part of the procedure or list dx/sx in order for us to provide better information to you?
