INCARCERATED PROLAPSED ILEOSTOMY

Cristina Posted Fri 27th of September, 2019 12:36:10 PM
I NEED A CPT CODE FOR A REDUCTION OF AN INCARCERATED PROLAPSED ILEOSTOMY. THE BOWEL ON THE ILEUM WAS PROLAPSED ABOUT 10-15CM. IT WAS DARK DUSKY IN COLOR. ONCE THE CHILD WAS ASLEEP ENTER THE ABDOMINAL CAVITY WERE ABLE TO REDUCE THE INCARCERATED PROLAPSE BY PULLING GENTLY ON THE INSIDE OF THE SMALL BOWEL AND THEN PUSHING ON THE ILEOSTOMY UNTIL IT HAD REDUCED IN TOTAL.

Since, there is no specifically defined procedure code for reduction of incarcerated prolapsed ileostomy, so you can bill unlisted procedure code of small intestine, i.e. 44799.

Make sure, when reporting a procedure with an unlisted code, submit a cover letter explaining the reason for choosing the unlisted code instead of a defined, active code. Also include the operative notes or other relevant documentation to strengthen the claim and to avoid a possible denial. Your payers will consider claims with unlisted procedure codes on a case by case basis, and they will determine payment based on the documentation you provide.

Hope this helps!
