ICD and Lead removal

Super Posted Mon 22nd of February, 2016 16:44:03 PM

Physiscian removes DCICD and both the atrial and ventricular lead. I want to charge 33241/33244. He wants to charge 33241/33244 and 33243. If he removed a multi system ICD and Leads I would give him 33241/33244 and also 33243 for removal of the LV lead as well as the dual leads. On dual system removal of all I only think it should be the 2 codes as 33244 is for removal of single or dual sys electrode(s). Can you verify this, which would it be?

Removal of the pulse generator and electrodes requires reporting of multiple codes.

Coding 33243/33244 depends on the approach through which electrodes have been removed.

For removal of electrodes by thoracotomy with removal of the dual chamber pulse generator, report 33243 in conjunction with 33241. For removal of electrodes by transvenous extraction with removal of the dual chamber pulse generator, report 33244 in conjunction with 33241.

Actually i converted the numbers. where I put 33243 i meant to put 33234(removal single lead pacemaker)Question should read -Physiscian removes DCICD and both the atrial and ventricular lead. I want to charge 33241/33244. He wants to charge 33241/33244 and 33234. On dual system removal of all I think it should be the 2 codes as 33241 gen removal and 33244 is for removal of single or dual sys electrode(s). both the sensing and pacing leads. Are the two codes correct?
If he removed a multi system ICD and Leads I would give him 33241/33244 and also 33243 for removal of the LV lead as well as the dual leads. Is that correct as the dual system covers 2 leads and he actually removes 3.

You should report CPT code 33241 for ICD removal and 33244 for removal of single or dual system electrode(s).

If more than 2 leads are removed, please report CPT code 33234 along with CPT code 33241 and 33244.
