ICD-9 code after signout

Venkataraman Posted Tue 24th of February, 2015 11:31:22 AM

If an ICD-9 code is added after a case is signed out does medical billing receive the update or do you have to inform medical billing of the change?

Thanks for your question. This will depend on how your office bills out the services or encounters. If your billing office enters charges from an encounter form, then you will definitely need to inform them of the addition. If your billing office uses the medical record to bill out charges, then they should have the addition. It would be a good idea to inform them of the additional diagnosis code to be on the safe side. Hope this helps.
