ICD 10 for Indwelling Ureteral Stent

Nicole Posted Mon 18th of February, 2019 16:28:24 PM
If a patient comes into the facility for left ureteral stent removal, what would be the proper diagnosis for indwelling left sided ureteral stent. Would it be Z46.6 or T19.8XXA

Thank you for Question.

As per the ICD CM index ICD 10 CM code Z46.6 (Encounter for fitting and adjustment of urinary device) would be appropriate for left ureteral stent removal.  ICD 10 CM code T19.8XXA (Foreign body in other parts of genitourinary tract, initial encounter) would be appropriate for the scenario where ureteral stent lies within the ureter or other urinary system tract as a foreign body and causing infection or other complications for which removal of stent procedure was initiated.

Hope this Helps!
