ICD-10 Coding for Meckel's Diverticulum

Kathy Posted Tue 28th of June, 2016 19:07:37 PM
I'm coding for an excision of a perforated Meckel's Diverticulum of both the small & large intestine. I've identified K57.40 & Q43.0. Should the congenital anomaly (Q43.0) be used as the primary or secondary diagnosis code? Thanks.

Greetings from SuperCoder! Please note that you cannot report both congenital and acquired codes together for the same condition. A condition can be either acquired or congenital but cannot be both. Please check your documentation and code as appropriate. Thanks.
