icd-10 code for vacuumn assisted delivery?

Susan Posted Fri 16th of October, 2015 16:35:41 PM

O66.5 states "attempted vacuum" and also states with subsequent delivery by forceps or C-section. Is this the only code for a vacuum delivery? Can I use this for a successful delivery/

Well, yes, as it is mentioned that code is applicable for the subsequent delivery by forceps or cesarean delivery. So, you can use this code for vacuum delivery. Hope it helps!

It sounds like this code is only for FAILED vacumm, which is then delivered by forcep or c/s. Someone suggested using O80 for vacuum because it does state 'minimal or no assistance'. Would vacuum fall under minimal assistance?

In O80 minimal assistance can be anything which is not specifically mentioned. But, in O66.5 vacuum related code, it does not report for failed vacuum. Vacuum used for assistance only. ICD O66.5 states that "Application of vacuum or forceps", so you can code this.
