ICD-10 code for fibula avulsion fracture

Blackhorse Posted Fri 26th of July, 2019 15:31:43 PM
Doctor's diagnosis is "right nondisplaced distal fibula avulsion fracture/ankle sprain variant". X-ray of the tib-fib, ankle, and foot are obtained which may have a hairline fracture in the distal fibula that is nondisplaced. Examination: patient has some subtle bruising along the lateral ankle and lateral hindfoot. She is tender to palpation most notably over the tip of the fibula and the lateral ligaments. She is also mildly tender to palpation over the anterior ankle joint line. The remainder of the leg, foot and ankle is nontender to palpatiion. her sensation is globally intact to light touch. She has palpable pedal pulses. How do I code for Right nondisplaced distal fibula avulsion fracture?

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

If the encounter is initial then code S82.64XA (Nondisplaced fracture of lateral malleolus of right fibula, initial encounter for closed fracture) will be the appropriate code.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
