What DX could we use for corn/callus of thumb and what CPT code to use for paring of thumb? Premera denied CPT 11055- (Paring or cutting of corn or callus) with DX L84 corns and callus. Is there a more specific DX and CPT for paring of thumb? When I look up paring of thumb resources always point to podiatry or foot paring.

The appropriate Dx is L84.

CPT codes 11055-11057 represent paring and cutting of benign hyperkeratotic lesions like corns and callus. These codes are not for all benign lesions but only for any benign lesion that can be classified as hyperkeratotic corns and callus are just two examples given in the CPT assistant but these codes can be used for any hyperkeratotic lesions. CPT Codes 11055-11057 will only be reimbursed by Medicare if the treatment is medically necessary.
