How to bill for 2 surgeons during one surgery session

Victoria Posted Mon 30th of September, 2019 13:20:08 PM
Our two doctors did surgery on a patient at the same time. The patient had Bilateral breast reconstruction done. One physician did the right side and one physician did the left side. Do we bill each doctor separate with RT and LT on the codes or do we bill them separate with modifier 62 as co-surgeons?

Hi Victoria,

Kindly help us with the CPT code that has been used for bilateral breast reconstruction. It seems both providers worked as co-surgeons during the procedure. It would be appropriate to bill 62 modifier with the CPT code. However, we need to check if 62 modifier is a billable modifier with your CPT code.

Kindly provide the CPT code.

Codes 19357 and 15777 both bilateral

Hi Victoria,

Both providers should bill CPT code 19357 (Breast reconstruction procedure) with 62 modifier. CPT code 15777 is not eligible for 62 modifier and hence 62 modifier should not be appended to the CPT code, Please use LT and RT modifier for implantation of biologic implant on Right and Left side.
