How many CPT's for a renal artery duplex?

Cathy Posted Fri 07th of October, 2011 18:33:34 PM

We bill a '93975' for a renal artery duplex, we are looking at the kidneys in gray scale, aorta, upper, mid, and lower lobular arteries in the kidney and proximal, mid and dist renal artery and veins. Should we be billing any other codes?

List of Codes:
93975 - Duplex scan of arterial inflow and venous outflow of abdominal, pelvic, scrotal contents and/or retroperitoneal organs; complete study

93976 - Duplex scan of arterial inflow and venous outflow of abdominal, pelvic, scrotal contents and/or retroperitoneal organs; limited study

Because they stated that the kidneys are in gray scale, it's my opinion that this constitutes 76775-59 in addition to 93975 or 93976. Duplex studies in this case would be otherwise color images showing the in & out velosities of the arterial & venous system in the kidney's. Any input?
