How do you code Wart destruction done for 11 warts?

obinna Posted Wed 12th of November, 2014 17:06:37 PM

A doctor does a wart destruction procedure for 11 warts on a patient's hands. 10 warts on the right hand and 1 wart on the left hand.

Would I code CPT 17110 (wart destruction) x 11 warts (as in 11 units) since it was 11 warts the doctor dealt with?

No you would only bill 1 unit for this procedure.

17110 is defined as destruction (eg, laser surgery, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, chemosurgery, surgical curettement), of benign lesions other than skin tags or cutaneous vascular proliferative lesions; up to 14 lesions. Use this code once for 1 to 14 warts.

Hope this helps.
