HNPCC coding for EGD

Karen Posted Thu 26th of February, 2015 18:22:18 PM

Our gastroenterologists are performing a colonoscopy for family history colon cancer, V16.0 with a secondary code of V84.09 for genetic susceptibility malignant neoplasm/Lynch syndrome. The MD then decides to do an EGD for genetic susceptibility malignant neoplasm/Lynch syndrome. We have no other code to use for the egd so our claims are being denied. Can you suggest how we should be billing for this EGD? Thank you

Hi Karen,
Thank you for the query.
For EGD appropriate series is 43235-43259.
And ICD-9CM can be V71 series.

Hope it help you.

Thank you
