Help with CPT and ICD-9

E. maria Posted Fri 27th of March, 2015 02:28:50 AM

How would you code laparoscopic closure of foramen of Winslow? The diagnosis is internal hernia secondary to patent foramen of Winslow and laparoscopic appendectomy? The appendix was tethered somewhat retroperitoneally in the right upper quadrant by the medial aspect of the kidney and lateral to the duodenum. This caused the cecum and the ascending colon to be twisted and decided to remove the appendix as well. I do not find a laparoscopic add-on-code for the removal of the appendix I also need an ICD-9 code for formen of Winslow.

Your help is much appreciated

Use code 44970 for removal of the appendix.
ICD9: 553.9

The appendix was incidental. The primary surgical procedure was the laparoscopic closure of foramen of Winslow

There is no laparoscopic add-on-code for the removal of the appendix.

I think you are missing my question. Forget about the appendectomy. I only need a CPT code for laparoscopic closure of the foramen of Winslow!

Their is no as such specific code for laparoscopic closure of the foramen of Winslow. Please use the unlisted CPT code 49329 for this particular scenario. Do not forget to mention about the procedure in the claim form. use ICD-9 code 553.9 for internal hernia.
