Health Examination

When coding with dx Z0001, do I use the well visit procedure codes? Normally the Dr. would circle the wellness, but this time, none is circled, just an E/M. Blood was drawn.

Hi Marilyn,

When coding with diagnosis Z00.01, it is not necessary to bill well visit procedure codes. We can just bill the appropriate E/M code. Since we are billing Z00.01 (Encounter for general adult medical examination with abnormal findings), we must bill additional codes that defines signs and symptoms or identify abnormal findings. Feel free to ask for any further query.
