Hardware injection

Lori Posted Wed 23rd of October, 2013 12:33:45 PM

Does hardware injection have an actual code yet? I bill the 64999 with the chart notes and then appeal with letter explaining the procedure. I currently have an insurance that denied the appeal and is requesting a different cpt code for a claim correction.

Part of the letter explaining the procedure "spinal fusion hardware inflaming the surrounding area causing the patient’s pain level to be a 6/10. The provider injected Celestone an anti-inflammatory medication around the distal screws of the C1-2 level hardware fusion."

The provider is not injecting the epidural space or the nerves but the space surrounding the distal screws

They might be looking for the injection code, CPT code '96372' and HCPCS code for substance is 'J0702'.
