The physician says he is correcting a "hammertoe deformity" at the third proximal interphalangeal joint, left foot. He does an Arthroplasty at the proximal interphalangeal joint with K-wire fixation and then Arthrodesis of the distal interphalangeal joint third toe with K-wire fixation. Is this coded 28285-T2? Everything i've been reading states hammertoe correction is at the PIP joint. I don't know if we should be coding another code when Arthrodesis is being done on the DIP joint at the same time, same toe. Please advise. Thank you, Paula/hg

CPT 28285-T2 will be correct coding. CPT code "correction hammerTOE"- is the correction of the defomity of the toe. It does not say correction of a hammering joint.
