GI ICD 10 Coding question - second opinion

Thomas Posted Tue 13th of October, 2015 17:36:04 PM

Would like a second opinion if patient was coded correctly please.

Patient presented for EGD for epigastric pain. Patient ended up having biopsies and we coded as follows:
DX Code 1: R10.13
DX Code 2: C16.0
Path came back adenocarcinoma of gastroesophageal junction/stomach.

Thanks so much for your help.

If its Coding for Encounter visit. i.e the day on which patient came with complaint of epigastric pain and EGD was performed. Than you should bill for ICD-10-R10.12 only. But if the Path report came on same day after EGD. Than you should bill as ICD-10 C16.0 and R10.13.
