Hi Apurva,

CPT 87631 is used for infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA); respiratory virus (eg, adenovirus, influenza virus, coronavirus, metapneumovirus, parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus), includes multiplex reverse transcription, when performed, and multiplex amplified probe technique, multiple types or subtypes, 3-5 targets, CPT 87632 for 6-11 targets and CPT 87633 for 12-25 targets.

Units for billing of these codes defined on the basis of date of service (DOS), so, one unit can be billed per DOS. However, there is no restriction defined on billing the codes on twice a week, until there is any client or policy specific guidelines. Codes can be billed more than once, when billed on different DOS and you need to provide the medical necessity of the procedure.

Hope this helps!
