Foreign Body Removal

Randi Posted Mon 16th of July, 2012 12:26:46 PM

I need to know what codes I would use for wound exploration, removal of 6-cm tree branch from the right thigh soft tissue, irrigation and debridement, and drainage. This patient is 6 years old. He went to an outside emergency room the day before where they made an incision and attempted to remove the foreign body but was unsuccessful. They placed sutures at the emergency room. When our surgeon started this surgery, he removed these sutures and started the exploration and drainage. He found the foreign body near the opening and removed it without difficulty. The wound was irrigated with saline with bacitracin. The wound was packed to faciliate drainage.

I would recommend 27372 for this procedure.
