The doctor's office needs to order a flecainide challenge test for a patient. The procedure will be done at the hospital. What is the correct cpt code to use for the order ?

This test is often performed in a hospital because there’s a possibility it will trigger a life-threatening heart arrhythmia. In that setting, the services the physician may report are limited. An E/M code may be appropriate depending on the services the cardiologist provided.

The facility will bill the infusion and supply the drug. If the physician provides separate ECG interpretation reports you may code 93010 (Electrocardiogram, routine ECG with at least 12 leads; interpretation and report only). Experts suggest coding only one ECG interpretation per session.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your response but you didn't address my question. The physician won't be providing any services at the hospital , he only wants to request the test using the appropriate CPT code.

Hi Wiiliam,

I could not find any CPT code directly for flecanide challenge test, a provocation test but closest CPT code you can use is 93024 as it is also used for provocation test.

Hope that helps!
