Fibrin glue injection

SuperCoder Posted Thu 24th of December, 2009 12:09:56 PM

Can you provide me with a CPT code for fibrin glue injection in colocutanuous fistula?

SuperCoder Answered Thu 24th of December, 2009 12:11:31 PM

Colocutaneous fistula are usually late manifestations of an unrecognized anastomotic leak or injury to the bowel where the diseased bowel adheres to the abdominal wall and invades through the skin or an abscess breaks through the skin. Fibrin glue injections are used to close the fistula, but in the CPT book we don’t have a specific code for this injection. So in this case I would suggest you to go with an Unlisted code 44799.
