Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Screening Exam

Kelly Posted Mon 07th of May, 2012 18:30:28 PM

What cpt code would you use for a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome exam on a 17 year old. I was looking at 99420 since it does not fit the criteria for a preventative physical, which the patient had 10 months ago. The only reason is the mother used alcohol while she was pregnant. Also, would you used V82.89 for the diagnosis if the patient did not have FAS?

I did not get any specific CPT related to this scenario. There are codes for 99408-99409, but again it is coming under preventive medicine. You could use V82.89 if the patient did not have FAS. For patient with FAS, should be used ICD-9 dx 760.71. I will again research on this and will let you know if any specific CPT is exist for this.
