Failed colonoscopy IDC9

Alan Posted Thu 08th of November, 2012 19:30:35 PM

Our physician did a colonoscopy on a patient that was incomplete. I billed it as such with a modifier 53. Now the doctor would like the patient to have a virtual colonoscopy. I'm not sure what ICD9 code to use to report a failed colonoscopy? Is there one? Of course the original dx for the colonoscopy will be used as well. They were rectal bleeding and history of colon polyps. Thank you.

In addition to the CPT code, you might want to use ICD-9 code V64.3 (procedure not carried out for other reasons) on the claim.
