Facetectomies with Posterior Spinal segmental fusion and intrumentation

Colleen Posted Tue 26th of January, 2016 12:59:30 PM

Are Facetectomies separately billable when performing a Posterior Spinal segmental fusion?

Would codes 63046 and 63047 be correct for facetectomies?

Facet joints are documented as being removed

Thanks
Heather

Facetectomies can be billed separately in 2 situations:
1. When Facetectomy has been performed on a different vertebral segment level other than current procedure.
2. OR When the Facetectomy has been performed on the same vertebral segment level purely for decompression of the spinal cord/Spinal nerve.

Codes: 63046 is for Thorasic & 63047 is for Lumbar facetectomy, these are codes used for facetectomies for Thorasic & Lumbar regions respectively.
