Extension of a stroke?

Mary Posted Thu 21st of April, 2011 19:57:05 PM

Help!!!!-physician's diagnosis was "Acute Extension of a Stroke"-patient now has a hemiparesis-according to what I have read about it the patient has a stroke and seems to recover but within 48 hours seems to get worse-does not seem to be "late effect"-I would appreciate any help with this code-

Since this is an "acute extension", and the same condition is only getting worse in less than 48 hours, i would be inclined towards coding the stroke only. no late effect code seems to be necessary.
