Extended visits with a -25 modifier

Patti Posted Sat 01st of December, 2012 01:03:08 AM

We code an extended visit with a modifier -25 for nebulizer treatments and demonstra-tion. The patient receives a treatment along with detailed education about the condition, treatment for home care, and instructions on how to use an inhaler or nebulizer machine. We also code an extended visit with modifier -25 for suture removals or I and D. We provide education about what to watch for and what to look for to return to the office. California insurance companies are not paying for modifier -59. Are we billing within guidelines?

Hi there! On what code are you placing the -59 modifier? Can you tell me the codes you reported so I can hopefully figure out why they're denying? Thanks!
