Exploratory Laparotomy with drainage of absces repair posterior anasto

Cindy Posted Wed 28th of October, 2015 10:27:32 AM

My surgeon performed a colectomy with anastomosis and a over a week later had to take patient back to surgery because of facial dehiscence and suture line dehiscence of the anastomosis. He performed a exploratory Laparotomy with drainage of the abscess, and repair of the sutures. The posterior suture line was basically falling apart, all of the staples removed and the defect was closed in two separate layers of sutures. It basically revised the anastomosis in two layers. There is a code for the abscess drainage 49020, but what would I use for the two layered suturing of previous anastomosis. thank you

"Thanks for your questions.

There is no specific code for this suture repair. Unlisted code would be the choice based on location of anastomosis - 45999, 49999"
