Need clarification as to the separately resected mass is billable with TAH- and which cpt code apply we began making a vertical incision from symphysis to just midway between symphyis and umbilical region. Incision was taken down to the fascia Exploration of the upper abdomen correctly revealed no evidence of carcinomatosis or ascites. Washing were taken and place on hold. There was a large mass greater than 15 cm very thin walled mostly cystic with no evidence of external papillations. There was noted arisin and replacing the right tube and ovary with litte torsion of ovary. there was obvious necrosis. The IP ligament was ligated and divided next we began the meticulous dissection of the mass off the disewall off the right ureter. once we were able to finally dissect the mass out of the culdesac and off the posterior wall of the uterus it was mobilized carefully onto the utero ovarian ligament where it eas clamped and remove intact and sent for frozen section. while waiting for results we completed the hysterectomy Frozen section revelead benign mucinous cystadenoma. pathology report: ovary and fallopian tube SO Right ovary mucinous cystadenoam. 790 grm 14.2 x 10.6 x 9.0cm Uterus tube and ovary left, hysterectomy with so cervix no significant pathologic abnormality endometrium atrophy no evidence of hyperplasiaor carcinoma left ovary benign surface epithelial inclusion left fallopian no significant pathologic abnormality. thank you again Melanie W

The resected mass is billable with Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. Following codes will be billed.

TAH - 58150

Resected mass (depending upon the size of lesion) : 49203 - 49205.

Ignore the previous answer and consider this answer to be correct.

The Exploratory Laprotomy and Resection of large ovarian tumor cannot be billed separately with TAH. They will always be bundled. Also, for the mass removal, refer to the operative note for the size of ovarian tumor to choose the correct code (49203-49205).

Hope this helps!
